I'M SO MAD THAT ALLY WEEK IS THE SAME WEEK AS ASEXUAL AWARENESS WEEK AND IT'S SO IRONIC, BUT IN A SAD WAY BECAUSE WE'RE ALWAYS OVERSHADOWED BY ALLIES
(Also why do allies need their own week?? Isn't every week basically ally week?)

The sort of allies who want their own week are the sort of allies who make everything worse for the groups they try to "help". Typical that they'd see an awareness week starting with A and think it must be theirs.

That's exactly the problem with this! I sent an email to GLSEN (they organized Ally Week) and I'll see if anything comes of it.

Really, the irony is amazing. We need awareness so that stuff like this doesn't happen... Yet it happened right on top of awareness week. I'm sure they didn't mean any harm but I don't really see the point in ally week either.

Yeah, hopefully they'll write back to my email and reschedule it for next year because it's probably too late to make any changes for thi year. I also asked them to include information about asexuality on their website, as there is truly nothing and that's awfully sad. I wish they didn't stomp all over our attempts for visibility and awareness in favor of allies.

Also, I just sent an email to GLSEN's executive director! That might do something but who knows??? At least I'm trying.

The more people who write letters, the better. Perhaps someone could write a form letter that people can send.

Yeah, if anybody else wants to write emails, that would be great. The executive director's email is ebyard@glsen.org. The official email they give on their site apparently redirects to somebody who no longer works at GLSEN, but he wrote back and said to write to cberedjick@glsen.org. Maybe they'l lactually do something if they get some (politely worded!) complaints. They need to realize why what they're doing is a problem.

I too, am a little annoyed at the coinciding weeks. However, I did see that "Ally Week" was decided long before Asexual Awareness Week was allocated to the same week. An unfortunate double-booking with irony as a side-dish, I think.
But you're right. Allies shouldn't need a week. If they need a week to express their support, then they're not even real Allies as far as I'm concerned. I don't need to participate in an Ally Week in order to let others know I'm an ally. Most people that know me already are CLEARLY aware of my support for the group as a whole. My first boyfriend who I'm still in touch with is a LGBT member, his sister too, and even my own brother. I don't need a week to brag about supporting them to make myself look important. I'm for their rights...not focus on me. I think that's where Allies who are participating in this, are getting it all confused. They're taking the focus off the people they supposedly support, and putting it on themselves. Which is very counter-productive...and extremely rude.

And I really hate how this is probably gonna be a big thing and how Ally Week is planned by a big LGBT organization (it seems they don't know anything if they really plan on doing this) but at least nobody I know will be participating in Ally Week.

No, I don't know anyone personally who's having anything to do with it either - so I guess that's a plus? Lol.
