I believe it happened on AVEN when someone said cake was better than sex and everyone agreed (at least that's how it was explained in the movie (A)sexual)
The other possible origin comes from using cake to explain asexuality:
-asexual people don't want the cake
-demisexuals will want the cake only if it's baked by someone they love
-grey-asexuals sometimes want the cake
-allosexuals want the cake
Controversy
Some people don't like the cake thing for a few reasons
1. Some people don't actually like cake
2. Some asexuals would choose sex over cake
2a. Some asexual people actually enjoy sex
3. Some people just think it's dumb
